It measures in real time the actual static torque transmitted to the workpiece, regardless of the screwdriver’s own readings—which can vary due to tool wear or load fluctuations.

Unlike torque meters, which measure the torque required to unscrew a cap after tightening, the screwdriver-mounted torque controller measures torque at the exact moment of tightening, under actual production conditions. This is the most reliable method for calibrating a screwdriver, detecting torque drift, and validating a screwdriving process in accordance with quality requirements.

The ACRN system consists of a rugged, self-stabilizing static torque sensor (with a range of 0.5 to 25 N·m), a standard ¼-inch female square drive, and an XA-m readout console with a digital display, memory, and data output.

Why measure torque directly at the screwdriver?

In an industrial capping process, the screwdriver displays a target torque value.

However, this pair is not always the one that is actually transmitted to the plug. Friction losses within the tool, wear on the bits, variations in product viscosity, or the geometry of the cap can cause significant discrepancies between the displayed torque and the actual torque. These discrepancies often go unnoticed until they lead to problems on the production floor: leaks, caps that won’t open, and non-conformities during outgoing quality control.

The ACRN screwdriver torque controller eliminates this uncertainty by measuring torque directly at the tool-workpiece interface, with an accuracy of 0.1% of full scale and a sampling rate of 5,000 Hz. This temporal resolution makes it possible to capture dynamic torque spikes that are invisible to the naked eye, which are often the cause of screw-driving defects on high-speed lines.

System description

Measurement console XA-m

Embedded sensor with a capacity from 0.5 to 25 N.m

Upper standard drive with female

Base with hole drilling

Central body of the sensor casing

Dimensions for female square:

Possible adaptations for the top drive of the srewing machine:

-Other dimension of squares

-End caps

-Dummy caps

Possible adaptations fot the plinth:

Customized base for adaptation of buckets or specific dimensions.

Applications and Industries

The torque controller for screwdrivers is used in all industrial sectors where automatic or semi-automatic screwdrivers are used for capping, screwing, or assembly operations:

Cosmetics and Fragrances

Qualification of capping machines on packaging lines for perfumes, creams, and skincare products.
